i have no idea, darwin, but maybe other people will see this post and we'll get some sort of snowball effect off this site. i don't know who can help this neighborhood and it's too bad.

Tell me about it. I am really frustrated, too. When I bought my home in '06, things really looked like they were looking up, and Bare Beans was great. That is, until I heard the landlord didn't do a good job of maintaining the property, namely, the water/sewage, allegedly. It was such a shame when they went out of business, and then when the nearby restaurants did, too, the 2 that were there before Martin's were even better. Martin's was not good enough for what it made itself out to be, sadly. I am with you, but had sort of given up, due to lack of community interest and available cash once the recession began. Our neighborhood seems like such a potentially great place, w/ potential being wasted. We just need the EDC or something to draw businesses over here. We need a cafe, ice cream shoppe, a little seafood shack, nice food market, etc.... I am not sure what Schiavone's deal is. I have heard he has done great things w/ our neighborhood in the past, but I see no obvious evidence of recent, positive, pro-action. I don't know why he's hanging on to property that someone else would use better.

The owner almost got away with burning the other building down that sits right on the river. They were filling -- no, PACKING -- it with old tires. It was posted here on SCF:

The property should be removed from the hands of Joel via eminent domain. All we need to do is band together and form an LLC and come up with a plan. Eminent domain is real. Unfortunately, people accomplishing anything these days is slim to none. I'm here if anyone is interested.

until there is a new mayor who is not in bed with these developers there isnt much positive that is going to happen. it seems all his developer friends just want to burn down the properties for their own gain.

Hello. I am an equally concerned citizen. I am intrigued by the potential of 21st century social networking technologies to organize people. Face to face meeting at regular times is a good idea, but we are not on the same schedule. And just because you can't make a meeting doesn't mean that you're not concerned or that you shouldn't know what's going on. Virtual communities can be truly effective and powerful. But to do that we need to be a bit more up front about who we are. For example, why all the aliases? I would love to know who is posting on this site. My name is Paul Pasquaretta. I own a house on Clifton Street. I agree with everything people are writing here; but what's the value of us simply venting our frustrations? Where is that going to get us?

The website by itself is not going to do anything. The website needs to be a spring board to community organization. Obviously, there are enough cranky people out there to make a difference. Problem is, they're just venting, not channeling their energy. But to channel, I think, we need to know who we are. How can I/we engaged in a productive dialogue with an anonymous online alias? Are we afraid of reprisals for speaking out? Isn't that what we are supposed to do, as ourselves, and not the moniker we might use for a personal ad?
