We believe the "resident" of that area has created a nearly full-time job in the median of exit three at Orange street. He leaves his work product on the corner and in yards: discarded signs, coffee, and food. When no one gives him any money, he sometimes bangs the signs and/or yells (as he just did before he left down Trumbull Street toward State). He has had numerous meet-ups with state and city police, but he continues his requests for help. We pick up his trash and stay out of his way.

Well his outbursts have given my husband and I cause for concern. Because he is residing practically in our backyard, our dog barks continually at him when he is walking up and down the on ramp. My dog is just doing his job in protecting his property. This morning, my dog began to bark at him as he left and the man began screaming at my dog, quite violently. Also, within the last couple of month I have found my dog chewing on some food scraps/chicken bone that can be potentially harmful to him. I am pretty sure they're coming from this man because our trash is not kept anywhere near our backyard. This is very, very concerning and it needs to be addressed ASAP.

I forwarded this issue to both the new district commander as well as the community services administrator to see how we can help take care of the problem for the long term.

The CT DOT has ordered this gentleman off of their property by 2PM tomorrow.

Outreach and Engagement at Columbus House have contacted 3 people who are using the area as a camp. They were able to make good contact with one of the people and had them in their offices for an intake - they were very nervous however and may not stay. Columbus is sending more people out to do outreach for the upcoming storm and trying to help in any way -

please let us know if the encampment remains, or if it is taken care of, please change status to closed.

This morning it looks as though the man may have moved on but his tent, tarps, etc., are still there, as is a lot of trash, both in plastic bags and strewn around the area. Who could we call upon for clean up?

The man has been gone since before the big storm, but all of this debris remains; Tarps, a tent, garbage. Is there any way to get this cleaned up??

Though the man is no longer there, his garbage and debris still remain.

This encampment has been in place for at least 4 years. Which office can clean up the debris? This might discourage the residents from returning.
