Descripción

This triangle of land is filled with dumped furniture, construction debris, and burst bags of domestic trash.

This area used to be a pretty little patch of wetlands cut off from the river by highway development. Unfortunately, it -- and the adjacent 100 block of Packard Alley -- was also a favorite dumping ground for dumpers heading for Highway 37 but too lazy to go that far. Construction debris, house moving trash, and the domestic trash bags of mobile home traveler were common. The city made a feeble attempt to landscape the plot but succeeded only in planting tall enough shrubs to hide the plot from the view of commuters and tourists driving on Mare Island Way -- "who cares about the locals, so as the nice folks driving by don't see the mess?".

Now,-- apart from the highway screening shrubs -- this is a wasteland of weeds, and bare dirt, gouged by the truck treads of the dumpers who drive in and out most nights. Over the years, Code Enforcement & Streets departments have done a good job picking up trash, but more, and more keeps coming. The city has regularly promised extra lighting, closed circuit TV and regular patrols -- and never come through. It's about time they did!
