Pedestrians, stop walking out in front of traffic, even at crosswalks! We need time to stop! And maybe use the button for the lights? It's that big silver round thing on the nearby pole.
Speaking as a pedestrian who usesthe crosswalks and the "big silver round thing on the nearby pole", IT DOESN'T MATTER ANYWAY! Drivers still think they are more important and try to "beat" the pedestrian thru the crosswalk. I have given up counting how many times I have just about been hit by one of these so-called important drivers. A tad bit unnerving when I can reach out and touch the vehicle that just had to turn in front of me while I was walking at the crosswalk.
The crosswalk, or there lackof on the corner of Southwood and 6th Ave East (in front of Carnival Bingo) is the worst. We bike and walk across the street daily. Sadly, drivers ignore you standing waiting to cross. In fact, they speed up to head out of the city. Last Sunday, a truck stopped for a family member, but the car in the other lane did not. It was a very close call. The young driver of the car didn't even notice a pedestrain, she was too preoccupied talking to the passenger. Prince Albert drivers - please watch before you hit someone and change your life and the lives of the family member you killed.
In response to Bonnie, it is very scary! My husband almost kicked a car at a crosswalk that completely cut him off in order to beat him across the street. Drivers are rude, and seriously where are they going in such a hurry that it's worth risking the life of someone just trying to take a walk and stay in shape?!!!
My wife and I just moved here in May, and love it overall so far.... BUT we are completely shocked how often NO ONE will stop for us at crosswalks. My wife is even noticably pregnant and still people won't stop. And often when they do stop, they keep going before we even cross the centre of the road.
