If this doesn't get fixed promptly, some cool street art could draw attention to the hole and prevent people tripping over it, as well as send a message about keeping the streets properly maintained.
I'm envisioning a kind of rubbery tentaclepoking up through the broken surface held up by fishing wire connected to a fishing pole someone would hold high overhead, so when pedestrians walked by they could wave the tentacle around like it was alive. 😉
