Every day at United Cerebral Palsy Association of Philadelphia, 102 E. Mermaid Lane, buses sit idling as they wait to pick up UCPA's clients to take them home.

This is a daily occurrence, and I have spoken to the executive director of UCPA, who is well aware of the problem. He says they have asked SEPTA drivers of these paratransit vans to refrain from idling, to no avail. In colder weather, there probably is some justification for drivers to do this, so that the vans can be comfortably warm when clients do board. But at this time of year that need is certainly less acute. Of course, once a.c. season begins, the drivers will have a new excuse to continue idling.
If a bus, large commercial truck or construction equipment is observed to be running its engine while stationary refer caller to Air Management Services at 215-685-7580.
All other vehicles, (cars, pickup trucks, vans, motorcycles, etc.), refer the caller to the Police Department at 911.

The transit vans are contracted by SEPTA, and we have written the company a letter. I will let you know if any tickets are issued.
Thanks and keep reporting!
