This is an ongoing problem. Perhaps speed bumps might help

Agreed! They should, but they won’t. They did a traffic study a few years ago and apparently there wasn’t enough traffic to warrant any changes being made. Speed bumps should be placed 700 feet before Rojo Tierra, before the incline begins near Belvue, before Quarry Rd. and all along Gateside when you go downhill! Too bad the city is wasting money by adding useless bike lanes rather than actually doing something about dangerous road conditions.

With the new 48 apartments that will be built where the old Rodeway Inn is, and the 34 condos that will be on High St., these traffic issues on Riviera will become exponentially worse. What will be done to mitigate this?

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I am the La Mesa PD Traffic Sgt. I will have a traffic officer work the area and we can see if there is a place to set up our radar trailer. The trailer is currently assigned to another area of concern as of today, but I have your request on file.

Thank you for offering to set up the radar trailer. However, when radar trailers are seen and the speeds are shown drivers tend to slow down. When people slow down when they see the trailer, it will show that there are no speeding issues, and the problem continues. What else can be done to mitigate the speeding issues on Riviera besides the radar trailer? Thank you!

If you don't get satisfaction to your answers here, call Public Works, or the entity about traffic patterns and the new apartments going up. (Planning Dept). There must be a study and proposal on file that was up for public scrutiny.

As of 1/20/22 nothing has happened yet. This morning on my way to work I witnessed a near head on collision due to an SUV going around a truck on Riviera. This SUV saw the car that was ahead of me and still proceeded to speed up and go around the truck. This car had to swerve and ended up on the curb, barely missing the other car. I will be contacting the city each week until something is finally done and this issue stops getting swept under the rug.
