Description
I live at 264 Lorraine Avenue. In the photo on the right, after the trees, you can see the end of my driveway. The tree, which is almost out to the road and is hiding my driveway belongs to the neighbor next door. They are located at 255 Starr Avenue and own a double lot which extends over to Lorraine Avenue. When they planted this and other trees to border our properties 33 years ago, the trees were tall but the closest one to the road is now a safety hazard. My neighbor has permitted me to trim the tree as needed on the side facing Lorraine Avenue but it grows fast and I find I have to trim it frequently. There is a significant amount of traffic on this street as it runs from State Street to Balltown Road and a lot of people take it as a short cut and many of these people exceed the posted speed limit. I have to be very cautious when backing out of my driveway and have a number of close calls over the years with people coming from the State Street direction and speeding. Perhaps if there were a hidden driveway sign posted, people may be more cautious as they approach where I would be exiting the driveway. So I am requesting the installation of this street sign. A second request would be to reduce the speed limit on this street to 25 mph and/or install temporary speed humps or electronic speed limit warning devices in order to encourage people to slow down. I had recently discussed the speed hump idea with Councilwoman Doreen Ditoro and she recommended that I send a request online or attend a City Council meeting. Lorraine Avenue is one of only four streets that run from State Street to Balltown Road and all of these streets get a significant amount of traffic from people who don't even live on this street.
