Description

This has been a continuous problem. During drop off and pick up times at Highland School, the area on the 1300 Block of Nebraska Street behind the school becomes a free-for-all parking situation. People will leave their cars parked blocking driveways, in red zones and very near crosswalks to walk and pick up their children. When myself and other neighbors approached the school or the crossing guard, the response is "we can't do much about it." If we call the police, it is considered an extremely low priority, and the offenders are long gone before a unit arrives, if at all. Attached is one example of what happens on a daily basis during the school week. We've used cones; they're either stolen, moved or in some cases destroyed. The city recently re-painted the red zones to make it clear. Yet, parking illegally seems to be an accepted norm for many.
