What a mess! We all need to come together as a community to prevent the homeless from setting up camp. For example those in charge at the Smart and Final and Carl’s Jr. putting a stop to it before it grows to that state. It can’t be good for business and it’s not good for Vallejo. Today’s issue of the Vallejo Sun has an article stating that the city is looking into purchasing land from the school district for a “homeless navigation center”. I’m glad there is at least talk taking place, but the city needs to put an emergency task force together (maybe involve the state somehow) to get a handle on the situation asap.
I am a current member of this encampment. We are doing our best with the communities help to get rid of this dumping ground. It is not just us homeless making this mess it is the illegal dumping from people's homes as well. Over the past weekend with the community's help we've gotten rid of by my estimation over 3,000 lb of garbage from this pile alone. All paid for by donations of time and money by the citizens of Vallejo. I reached out through next door for help with getting our encampment cleaned up. We know it's an eyesore we know that people do not like to see it we do not like to see it either. We are doing our best to get things cleaned up and keep it clean and going forward. Please help us clean up after ourselves by providing us with somewhere we can dump our trash legally as well as porta potties so that we can go to the bathroom safely without using the ground as some have been doing. We want a hand up to clean up our encampment not a hand out. Many of the Smart and final employees have been watching and cheering on our cleanup efforts. I regularly walk up and down from the end of the road to the light at sereno and Sonoma boulevard cleaning up the trash that both really and the general public leave on both sides of the street to Smart and final side and Carl's Jr side including occasionally going into the lot and picking things up. We are trying to get stolen shopping carts back to their stores and emptied of trash. It can't all be accomplished in one day, but the amount of work that has been done in less than a week is amazing. Please Don't just run us off to another place to do the same thing.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please if you're willing to check the next door app look for my post I posted pictures of before and during cleanup efforts we are trying to be less of an issue for our community and self-sufficient so that we do not have to rely on handouts. Thank you so much to all of those who have helped in our cleanup efforts we do still have a ways to go but we are working on the issue. Thank you again.
Thank you for doing your part to help clean up. If we all join together and pick up litter on a regular basis in our respective neighborhoods the culprits may be less inclined to drop and dump it. I often think about the "Broken Window Theory". Yesterday, I walked Sereno Drive from Fairgrounds Drive to Tuolumne Street and picked up litter. Later this week I plan to do from Tuolumne Street to Kaiser.
